"The curious paradox is

that when I accept myself

just as I am,

then I can change".

Why Come To Counselling?

A common expression I hear from clients is “I’ve lost myself”.  So many of us find ourselves in a life we feel we “should”  be living, influenced by others, and losing our true selves in the process. This can leave us feeling stuck, resentful or unfulfilled. What we often forget in this isolating and increasingly digital world, is that by nature we are relational beings who need human support and connection to begin to heal when times are tough.

It’s understandable that we may feel like we have to hide or deny our pain in order to function, perhaps to protect our loved ones, to prevent stigma, or because we are ashamed. It is often easier to live on autopilot, miss the present moment and forget to feel.  But this coping mechanism leaves us operating in an exhausted state which can often become crippling, leading to periods of depression, anxiety, illness, addiction and even breakdown.

How I Work

I believe that we all have it within ourselves to change for the better, to feel better about ourselves and have healthier, happier relationships as a result. My experience of working in bereavement, has shown me how beautifully resilient the human spirit can be.  I have learnt it is never too late to find new meaning and fulfilment in life, even with the heaviest burden to carry.

What I provide is a chance to be truly heard and understood, in confidence, without being judged.  I encourage you to take care of and believe in your self and break free from the emotional restraints that may hold you back.  Life has taught me that through the process of recognising and releasing negative feeling, there is so often a greater sense of physical as well as mental well-being.

I will help you explore how you feel in the present, possibly looking how the past has affected the way you feel now, but ultimately working towards your future. We will work together on mind, body and spirit, towards finding you a new and healthy perspective and a more balanced, meaningful life.

About Me

I worked for four years on a crisis telephone counselling helpline, which inspired my love of working with people and led me to study Humanistic/Existential Counselling to Diploma level.  Since then I've had many years of experience, including working for a Bereavement Charity, a large NHS Hospital and a College of Higher Education as well as in Private Practice; helping adults from all walks of life, with numerous issues, in short and long term therapy.

I am fully insured and a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which promotes confidential, ethical and safe practice. As a member, I am required to continue learning by attending Continuous Professional Development Courses and have regular Supervision.
